Preparation is absolutely key, the audition process is already stressful enough without being worried about not being prepared. The best preparation tip is knowing you're song at any tempo. More often then not, in my experience, the accompanist doesn't play it the way I try and specify, but the best thing to do when this happens is to just keep moving forward. Don't stop your song and try and fix it. It's important to just try and keep the tempo you want in order to trigger the accompanist to follow you. A good accompanist will try and match your tempo.
